Bike ban in Germany on Sundays

I ride like Piet, and in villages or in Copenhagen or whereever there is a town: slowly and quietly. Nice and easy. Jotapipes or not. It's actually very easy to drive around quietly. A bit of revs outside on the countryside, where noone is near. Same with my cars. Usually it rains so much here in Denmark, that the sunny days can be counted on two hands for a whole season, so that's that. Noise problem is not a problem here in Denmark.

As Piet says, it's the braindead xxxxx from xxxxx who is suppressed by their "green" girlfriend and sold their soul to a bank, who on their gsxrrrrrrrr or whatever and of course the "pirates of society" the old men with lots of free capital bound in a house, which is now spent on a fuelbreathing stupidity on two wheels, called a chopper... Argh.... Tired...

Rest of year, roads are filled up completely with "baby on board", "dog on board", "Woman on board", and old men in multi coloured spandex on two wheels whose ride weighs far less than their wallet, and whose belly is far heavier than their car.

And of course the teenagers on a horseback... Argh.

Willy nilly, I do my best to take care of them all.

But.
And there's a but.

Every single day, no exception, except from apprx. 16/2-2020 - 10/5-2020, I have to put up with a gazillion of smoking stinking diesel cars letting their extreme amount of toxic waste out, into my lungs, my house, my garden. And the "oh so nice" countryside residents, are by far the worst, because they are so greedy, that they don't even want to buy their toxic waste diesel on a gasstation, but by cheaper oil for house warming, and shoot it all off here where I live in Copenhagen.
And no, I don't have money to move house.

Every stinking day.

THAT should be forbidden.

First.

Thanks for your patience ;)
Jacques

Helicopterjim: Direct line between Edmonton and Prince Rupert Central BC. I now know were you are from: Williams Lake ;o)

That's about as far North I did in BC back in 72.

"psychic illness" Hyphoxia when you tourer the mountains.

Vince, there's a lot of truth in that, as we have quite a lot of the us-made iron's and their far east plastic copies ramming through the hedges and fences into peoples gardens, as soon as they reach their first corner. Heck, even into peoples houses, but that is usually stolen cars or a drunken truck-driver. It happens quite a lot. Hence you can now see big, I mean BIG, chunks of granite being placed along the fences, the hedges and the houses which is near the road side.

Kind regards,
Jacques

Yep ..... that's me. Luckily the roads around here don't have many straight lines.

Cheers Ron!

I second Piets rant.

Confinement has made me appreciate the silence, particularly as I live near an airport and have 30% of flights over the house according to wind direction. No planes since mid March.
I have a noise meter at home because I belong to a group trying to reroute the take off flight path, the current one being only the result of the influence of the mayor of the neighbouring village.
Background noise is usually about 55 dB, planes excepted, it's fallen to between 35 and 40 dB.

Anyway, there's a motorway about 1km away as the crow flies and during confinement, the only thing one could hear were motorcycles on the motorway. 4 cylinder machines revving hard.

There is no justification for unnecessary noise. Noise is harmful.
Not to mention the need for more cars, more lorries, more planes. A modern car passing 50 meters away at around 70km/h is around 65dB, just from wind and tyre noise.

It can for the most part be avoided.
Let's leave something for our grandchildren.

I would have thought creating lots of noise was an age thing, young people like creating a lot of noise and as you get older you develop an understanding of the problems it creates for other people.
Cars too are a problem, there are some expensive flash cars around here that are idiotically noisy and they are just basically showing off in the city, at least it diverts attention away from the bikes.
They have blocked most of the seafront roads to traffic here throughout the lock down, it's a very long seafront too. It has transformed the place and now it's full of people cycling, roller skating, walking, running even zimmer framing. I think it should stay this way to be honest.

Yes, less infrastructures for vehicles and more for people.
And free public transport to get people there.
I'd rather pay taxes for public transport than for roads used solely for private purposes.

I am tending to agree with most posters, since I also live in the country, the lockdown has (especially now with doors and windows open) made me realise how much noise around me there usually is, motorway, aeroplanes (large and especially small) but the thing that makes me grate is Hardly Ablesons, going past in the lane (not a fast lane by any means and a 30MPH limit) at probably well under the posted limit, but making such a horrendous noise, my drive is 90 metres long  and 3 to 5 metres wide, so I rarely see them, but when I do they are smiling through open face (or coal scuttle) helmets and very often give a friendly wave, I normally plug my ears and shudder, I just detest that noise from such a low powered thing. If they had horsepower and loud pipes they would be trickling past and not bothering anyone! even an SFC 750 on 2 into 1 is not loud at town speeds, (even though the rider would be in agony with his neck and wrists)

It is eight years since I bought my Pan now (Honda ST1100) and I still enjoy its silence, people do not notice that you are 10 or 20 MPH over the limit, you don't attract attention, people react differently, there is more tyre noise than exhaust noise. I enjoy that, but it must be said that when riding through any area that has pedestrian traffic, caution is needed, because very often people step off the kerb, looking as they go, rather than look first then go, still its good to ride TOG and hear the roar, just not annoying anyone if possible.

"even an SFC 750 on 2 into 1 is not loud at town speeds", you have to be kidding  :D
Even at idle they are brutal. When I first fitted it and rode through Perth CBD I tried to cover the outlet with my boot idling at the lights, bloody ridiculous, until I made a perforated sheet tube wrapped in fibreglass inside it to take the edge off it. On a stock low comp 750 they are not quite so loud though. Once on a blast across the Nullarbor I overtook a car towing a caravan at probably twice his speed, quite close by with my SFC 2into1 straight at his open window at about 6000rpm, as I flashed by I just saw his face freak out and his head hit the roof of the car as he was blown out of his daydream, after that I slowed a bit and passed with much more distance. My VFR800 with standard muffler is great, like Clem?s Pan, nobody notices.
I totally agree about the "mekken arn" though, they are the absolute worst offenders around here.

Reiterates my comment about wanting a modern superfast and powerful bike to be quiet - why attract attention to yourself if you want to fang it - a bike that will do 300kph?! Seriously, a bike with 170+hp on a std exhaust sys, designed beautifully to be quiet AND efficient, swapped out for a screaming 4/1 to get what? More power???!!! Maybe they are too much like E-superbikes with the std sys?  :-X :o

I'm really trying to get a compromise with my new system - don't want to kill the power characteristics I'm trying to build into it, but don't want a loud beast that everyone hates and the fuzz can hear coming from 5km away ... ideally it would sound like a 916 with Termis - not quiet but not offensive either. It's tricky with an old 2-valve SOHC twin big bore bike, hottish cam and hi-comp like the SFQ, but I'll do my best.

No doubt if any of you ever hear the finished product you'll deride me because it won't be all that quiet and you'll remind what I posted here!! Gonna be a million times more socially acceptable than an SFC 2/1 though.

One of my old trail bikes is a 420cc 2 stroke Husky AE Automatic, its automatic gearbox has 4 speeds and it uses centrifugal force to activate its clutches and change gear. Going up a gear involved maximum reves on the pipe to get it to change so it was PAINFULLY LOUD around town, yep it had full rego. I eventually mitigated this by making the jetting off the pipe actually work correctly, shaved the slide so you could ride around and blip it and get it to cruse and change gears without revving its nuts off. It had a single steel skin expansion chamber that rattled like hell as well. So I attempted to quiten the expansion chamber by wrapping it hipster style in cloth tape and covering that with what I hoped would be heat resistant fibreglass. It actually worked well, except it constantly STUNK like hell. I forgot that I also had it ceramic coated to stop it rusting under all my crazy covering. In the end, I pulled it all off as I couldn't stand the smell of it cooking when hot. BTW it's now on Historic plates and is lightning fast going through the gears, one day I would love to do a few runs on the drag strip at Eastern Creek and see what it can actually do. It's still bloody loud though

... and they throw yogurt cups out of the window while I carefully heat the 750 SFC in the narrow street in front of my workshop!
