Bike ban in Germany on Sundays

The problem with loud bikes is the gregarious habit of humanity.

1 loud bike is ok, but it's hundreds if not thousands of them in the same place at the same time.
I enjoy my motorcycling on small roads and at the most in small groups.

Yesterday, we had a fun ride out with a small group of friends and ended up in a town square at a caf? terrace in glorious sunshine. A lot of people were out after 2 months confinement.

There was an incessant passage of motorcycles, most needing to blip the throttle on their loud bikes coming into the square, one arsehole even finding it great fun to bring his engine to the rev limiter repeatedly.

It's municipal election time in France. More and more parties are calling for strict legislation or bans of bikes in town and the use of noise "cameras".
Riders associations are crying out about discrimination, they've got it all wrong.

I do my bit - but unfortunately there are still many drivers who seem to deliberately 'shave' you, even when you're squeezed into the gutter trying to 'help', obviously ranting to themselves that a cyclist should get off the fukken roads that THEY PAY FOR ... never mind the fact that virtually every adult road cyclist has a car sitting at home that they 'pay for the roads' with through their rego and fuel taxes. I hate to say it, but in Oz, tradies are the absolute worst offenders ... I'm guessing it's a testosterone, macho-bogan thing.

I have actually come across arrogant road cyclists riding two abreast on narrow lane-type roads, who refuse to go single file to let me drive (the car) past, even thought they would know you are the only car likely to come past them. As a cyclist I avoid hooting the horn, but inside the car I'm telling myself what a bad name pricks like that give us. I can understand where you're coming from Clem, but be careful!

From what I can gather from the media and press in Germany the ban is most likely already decided.

Bicycle riders, in particular race bike riders, are arrogant and selfish a-holes here in Germany! Cycle paths are ignored, although the law clearly states the mandatory use if signs are posted. Haven't seen a single cop enforce this, but checking motorcycles is omnipresent.
 
There are some very selfish Lycra lizards who believe they own the roads in front of pedestrians- many more people walking on the roads today in the villages - the selfish ones are too far up their own arse to have a bell to politely say I am coming through - nearly got taken out the other day when taking a step into the road to give someone more space -

the local police did a ride out the other day on pushbikes and stopped motorists who got too close to them - when this was posted on social media most of the comments were from motorists asking how many cyclists they stopped for unreasonable riding / not one !!!!
 
Let's give this one a rest. There are selfish bastards in cars and on bicycles and we will never be rid of either. Aggressive driving towards cyclists can only end up badly for both parties. Chill on the road and on the forum.
Noisy bicycles! We used to attach a bit of cardboard to the fork with a peg, to hit the the spokes, we thought we were pretty cool. That would get a fine these days.

Nah, noisy pedalists. 

The valley in which I live is frequented by loads of cyclists on a sunny day, quite often a touristic event runs through.  Sunday mornings, 6am, the first droves come through, most of the buggers yelling at each other (trying to converse, actually) because they're out of breath... why don't they just STFU and save their breath for the fucking pedalling??  They're just as much a nuisance as the speeding bikes and cars.

Quite a few of my road bike riding friends have fitted bells. On bike paths I shout loudly 'BIKE PASSING'. I find half of the peds on paths these days have headphones blaring and are oblivious. As for using bike paths ... there is a road here in Melbourne called beach rd, follows the bay for about 20km. it's rated as 'the most cycled road in the world'. There is also a shared ped/cycle path, but 99% of cyclists use the road - I've ridden that road in bunches where the ave speed is close to 50kph ... that simply won't work on a shared path. Even riding alone I'm usually in the mid 30kph zone, ad would never ride the shared path at that speed. Fortunately it is a two-lane each way roadway, so vehicles can pass two riders travelling abreast.

I think unless you have experienced riding bicycles you will never understand what it's like, so best we give the topic a rest on the forum. I'm sure everyone has experienced some aggro from car drivers when riding their Laverdas as well.
 
Well said Quentin, plenty of good people out there and plenty of wankers as well, dosnt seem to matter how they transport themselves from A to B.

Three weeks ago we had 5.000 bikes at the demo in Schweinfurt against the law "No bikes on saturday /sunday on the roads".

Last weekend we where more than 6.000 at the demo in N?rnberg/Bavaria  -  impressive!
Between the start of the first driver for the 20 km-course round the city centrum till the last driver starts, it takes about two hours!

Of corse the LCO (Laverda Connection Oberpfalz was present with several bikes.

I don't think the law change will be enforced.

Decades back the Pollys tried similar here, they love to overreach, stupid ideas usually result in massly pissed off citizens and very big protests. That in Oz resulted in a mass protest in the National Capital, lots did the trip from the Population Centres. There was Apox 10,000 bikes there parked around old Parlement House that day and it got serious attention resulting in sagnifigent changes at the time. There was a solid movement on this for a while, and then it fractured into splinter groups through self-interest.
 
In Victoria Australia until the early ?70s there used to be a 50mph (80kmh) speed limit for any bike with a pillion, at a time when there ws no speed limit on the open road. The protest ride to end it had both lanes of the road to Geelong (a regional centre further around the bay) filled with many thousands of bikes with pillions doing the legal speed limit on a very busy day, major traffic disruption. Peaceful protest and the law was changed at next sitting of lawmakers.
