Broken Hill - 80s Jota owner?

Sometimes it's not so bad catching up with people from the past.

A few months ago I met an old mate that I hadn't seen for over 40 years. We were pretty good mates back then, but we parted on somewhat hostile terms. We were both about 20 when he tried to nick my girlfriend and we ended up having a drunken punch up. It was a pretty dumb thing to fall out over because neither of us ended up with the girl in the long run. Come to think of it "pretty dumb thing" is a good description of the young lady in question. Looking back on it now I reckon we both dodged a bullet. She eventually married another mate, cleaned out his bank account and then buggered off with some other bloke.

Anyway we met by chance in the supermarket and decided to go for a drink at the yacht club. We actually got on pretty well. Old animosities were long forgotten. We ended up having lunch and a laugh about some of the crap we got up to as youngsters. Turns out he had just become a grandfather. We exchanged phone numbers and agreed to catch up again soon.

Hahaha 🤣 great confession.

Yes you are on the money (pardon the pun) Dellortoman,

I think G thought the bloke I stacked his Jota with tried the same thing cos he is NOT happy about him. What G didn’t know was that I hadn’t run off with that chap (rather jerk) I was unconscious in bloody hospital. But apparently the guy had told G I was in hospital for only a few days etc etc etc. It what some serious misinformation like that, that I was referring to when I said - it was a hard and painful initial conversation with G.

Both of you boys (you and your old mate) dodged more than a bullet my friends and you will no doubt have become better men for that now I bet you!!!!

We all did dumb shite in our youth.

Stories told and the players involved are kept from knowing the truth. Sad that that has to happen to good people.

Sounds like the Chilcotin District of British Columbia where I worked the last few years! Rumours and bullshit abound where there ain't many people around. I found that rather than the truth is stranger than fiction ........ the fiction was quite entertaining and the truth was quite boring.
If I had actually slept with all the women I was rumoured to have enjoyed ..... I probably wouldn't have had much time left to go flying.

I hope you are able to get to where you can have a nice comfortable conversation with Graham and put the bullshit far away in the past.

Cheers
Jim

Good story Chris. Cams driveway is THE WORST. Tried for the grassy bit on the side, to miss the rocks, grass was wet....... Carlo's new driveway at murrurundi is bad, but nothing like Cams.
You've obviously never negotiated Clem's drive!
Trials riders use it for practice.
Going up is bad but coming down is challenging: deep ruts, loose surface, and a 45% gradient final section as it hits, at right angles, the tarmac road down which people barrel at 65kph and upwards in Chelsea Tractors. Giving way is not something they seem capable of.

Know it well. Particularly with car and trailer. U turns are fun.

That bank back onto the road after crossing the river, leaving has you dripping water and making slippery mud and that makes braking easy to crash on that bank and 90deg turn. I think I murdered that sentence. It's bloody tricky.

Ok so it’s a tricky corner?

Martys driveway has issues as well, moss and leaves on the paving reduce traction even walking can be tricky.

Bruce's corner has a good mitre drop mid bend down onto the river bank so you need to control speed while turning. Ask Doug R and I bet a few more

I've only seen Bruce's driveway once. Musta been after a dry spell because the river wasn't much above ankle deep.

Nadia: Just to put you in the picture, Bruce has a river crossing in his driveway, with steep turns leading in and out. He's hosted a few Laverda gatherings at his place and the river crossing is like a rite of passage. A few riders have come to grief. There's a video of bikes crossing the river but I can't find it.

Ok Great, Dellortoman,

So when Vince says it’s tricky he’s being a typical Aussie bloke (and underrating it’s difficulty level 🤕 greatly) so for a Guzzi novice, clearly I will never be invited - not that I ever assumed I would (and that’s not just because I ride a Guzzi and not a Laverda 🥳).

Fine then, well I make the best darn lemon/lime and gin cheesecake on the planet and a mean ice cold G&T to go with it - so you can all just miss out now and spend your time winging about the driveway and your wet socks 🥳

Nobody really cares too much about what you ride in the NSW Club, if the president can turn up on a few oddball bikes anyone can. Keep your eyes peeled in the ride section here as we do a few rides up north during the year. Feel free to turn up, although it's getting nuts lately with plus 20 on rides. Just getting fuel becomes an ordeal in country towns and accommodation has us muiltpubing if that's a word. We have had woman, Hi Christian, on rides before. We even did a ride with Girls Ride Out once Women's ride club in Sydney. That was good fun with lots of ability amongst their members from newbies to holly crap she is quick. You said the magic word, Cheesecake to some in the club gets you everything.

Thanks Vince,

I’ll keep my eye out as that sounds like an interesting group of gals. Sadly the magic word “cheesecake” is unlikely to get my Guzzi across the “tricky” river driveway.
