What did you do to or for or with your Laverda today?

Refitted the front end on the 3C after new fork seals and repainting the disc carriers.

Don't powder coat it Cosi. Epoxy paint gives a better finish and is more durable. It's also more easily repairable if you chip it.

Totally agree with Cam, powder coat sucks, chips as easily as any paint and not repairable. Wish my Motodd frame wasn't covered in it, still not sure how to remove it and no way am I going to pay $200 and a 240km round trip to have it sand blasted.

I'd leave it on there rather than sandblasting it, rub it down with 120 then 240 then spray the epoxy on or if you aren't too fussy brush with a very soft brush. I've epoxy painted a few boats and they look almost as good as sprayed and they are a much bigger area. The powder coating would make a great underlay for the epoxy.

Isn't the problem with powder coating/ baked enameling the potential for rust? My triple was painted by a trade lecturer at Ithaca TAFE College and he warned me off power coating as well. I recall he said something about the potential for rust to occur under the layer of enamel and that you wouldn't know it was there. Haven't seen any evidence of that yet with my 3 1/2 Morini and it was done about 15 years ago. I wonder what the supposed time frame for damage is?

this post is about what Laverda ownership did for me today.....

so, my old Jag puked up its starter. Long story short, one prick of a job to replace, harder than swapping an entire bloody engine. The starter is simply not accesible. What should have been a half hour job max, five hours later I still didn't have the bloody starter removed, I was bleeding from various scrapes, and I had just resorted to welding a 13 mm wrench to a length of  steel rod to try and get both access to, and leverage on, what I needed to unbolt.

I gave up, first time in decades I have given up on a mechanical project, had the car towed to the Jag dealer.

I turn up at the Jag dealer after the tow truck drops the car off, stand in line at the service counter behind some self important business man type demanding that he get his car repaired and back by end of the following day, listened to the service guy telling him repeatedly that the service department was way too busy and it would be a couple of days before they could get to his car... the guy blew a gasket and went stomping off trying to find a manager...

I walk up to the service guy, hand him my old Jag key, on a Laverda key tag. He does a double take, starts telling me all about the Jota he owned as a younger man back in the UK, etc.... I tell him I need the starter changed out, call me in a couple of days when it is done and the car is ready to be picked up. Then when he takes my information for the service order, he sees my name and asks me if I have anything to do with the Laverda Forum that he just loves to read, and we have a further good chat......A couple of hours later my phone rings, my car is ready, even the bill for the work done was really reasonable, way less than I was expecting. Laverda ownership rocks, as does participation in this forum!

A couple of days back I email a crowd in Pommyland,I am in OZ, about a few replacement carb diaphragms on the CV Kehans I have on my 3C,I say I need 3 as the carbs are on a Triple.Blokes asks me what kind of Triple.I say a Laverda 3C and he comes back with he is connected with Team Rufus Space Frame Race bike team.Laverdas,6 degrees of separation world wide for petrolheads.Ha Paul,a mate had a V12 XJS,I spent some time playing with it.Ever played with the windscreen wiper actuater on them, still get cold sweats thinking about it.They buried the alternator real deep on them as well.

heres the old one Julian, make me one out of some sexy aluminium and save me!

Fitted tyre no 55 ready for ride out in beautiful 25c spring day today. also the last ten tyres have been run tubeless with the first one being holed by a nail. Pulled out tubless repair kit, up & away in less than 10 minutes.

Fitted one of Andy's cam chains to the 3C and set the valve clearances.
Stripped and cleaned the clutch plates and fitted his duplex primary chain as well.
Fitted freshly polished cam cover and chromed bolts around the side casings.
New plugs and caps.
Rebuilt the ultrasonically cleaned carbs with new float needles.

Been draining water of the Bikes Tarp Cover for over a week now. All the leaves have fallen and the temperature is dropping every day. I think last week week was my last ride of the season here in Ontario Cda; but hey, isn't it spring in Australia or is Winter still lingering.

Changed the fork oil and greased the swing arm bearings, now it's already to go up to the Barry Sheen challange on Sunday.
