The fall and rise of a works SFC engine

Who needs a welder? Araldite will fix anything.

There was a butcher person here in Germany who did something similar.
Used Bondo to cover a hole in the bottom of a drummer crankcase :o
He also used a large woodscrew to substitute a missing cam bearing screw.

Ian on the ILOC forum has been posting pictures of engine from his drummer which came from Germany recently, I think the same butcher had been at that one too.

you are talking about my "friend" CN from Bavaria by chance?

Holy shit, always horrorfying what one stupid man can do...  :o even more surprising though is that some people still think he was a good mechanic...

The good thing though is: it does make other politicians work and behaviour look way better...

Canada's First Person, Justin Trudeau has made a visit to the Bolshoi Ballet in Russia where he wowed them with his style.

if its the same as you recommended to me, Piet, the outcome will be brilliant. Still visible, but brilliant (not cheap though...)! Cross my fingers!!!

Well, it has been quite a wait, but the cases are finally welded.

Unfortunately, because my former welder had to give up his business due to health reasons, I spent quite some time searching for another laser welder.  The toolmaking company I finally found said they'd give it a go, even though they had no former experience with engine casings.  I stressed the importance that they remain straight and declared they had all the time they might need.  Over the past months, I could see slow progress being made when I delivered and collected other stuff to be repaired, things were looking promising.  Anyway, the long-awaited call came Friday, I picked the caboodle up this morning.

Welds now need dressing, stud thread is to be bored and tapped, oil passage re-opened, cylinder base surface re-faced and then it will be ready for a blast with glass beads.  I'm quite confident the end result will be OK.  The repair will not become entire invisible, but imo, quite acceptable.  Old racing bangers have always been repaired as circumstances require, I'll let it carry its scars in dignity.

I'll see how it goes in a couple of days.

It must have been a nerve-wracking time Piet, but it is looking really good and I'm sure with the shot blasting then bead blasting techniques you've previously outlined it'll only be visible to the determined nit-picker.

In essence, you're raising it from the dead and a few "laughter lines" add a bit of character and reflect that it is genuinely used not cossetted. Every credit to you.

I just read the whole story as I wasn't in the forum yet at the beginning of this story. AMAZING.
In the beginning could never think that was possible to fix. RESPECT
